What does a year in the life of a Collaborative Pianist look like?
- 34 Sunday rehearsals, typically four hours 1pm-5pm
- 3 Saturday retreats, typically eight hours 11am-7pm
- 6 Mainstage Concerts Saturday/Sunday, Saturday including all-day tech prior to concert
- 6+ Community Concerts to be negotiated as needed but almost always at least the Sunday prior to a Mainstage Concert combined with existing rehearsal
- Summers off typically July, August, and Half of September with major Holidays off
- More than just a rehearsal pianist, truly collaborative with AD
- Independent Contractor with a one year contract including a 30 day notice termination clause, ideally long-term commitment
What are the duties of the Collaborative Pianist?
- Work closely with and follow the direction of the Artistic Director to provide musical support for warm-ups, auditions, rehearsals, and performances
- Rehearse and perform music in many various styles, with singers and musicians of varying technical levels
- Sight-read music and adapt to various musical styles within rehearsals
- Possess the ability to play open score, TTBB choral parts, and piano accompaniment
- Possess the skills necessary to play with a full combo (piano, bass, drums, auxiliary keys) and guest artists at concerts. Work with combo musicians on cuts and instrumentation, all while following tempo and artistic directives from the conductor
- Maintain a collaborative and professional mindset
- Support the Mission of the LVMC, act with integrity, and prioritize decisions through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion
What experience is required of the Collaborative Pianist?
- Piano: 5+ years, proficiency with excellent sight-reading skills; comfort reading both from sheet music and lead sheets preferred
- Strong understanding of music theory with ability to adapt to different musical genres
- Experience accompanying individuals or groups in various settings, especially choral or theater settings preferred
- Previous experience working with chorus or stage ensembles preferred
What is the pay range and hiring timeline?
- Pay is commensurate with experience targeting $50+/hr

- Interviews and auditions will begin by Monday, April 6th with the goal of a Sunday, April 19th start date/first rehearsal
